PASC NEWS & EVENTS : Sydney NSW (PASC Inc) collects 3 out of 4 Championships at the 2nd Global Filipino Sports Festival & National Games in Adelaide, SA – 11-12 April 2009 The weather was good and the mood was excitement all the way. It was a disappointment at first because the Sydney delegation missed the welcome ceremony (and the dinner) due to late flight arrangements. The tennis and golf players ended having dinner in a Thai restaurant at 11PM. No worries, as the food was great and the walk back to the hostel presented great sight seeing (lots of rowdy bars and loud music to celebrate Easter?) Back at the hostel, people are still wide awake, drinking, exchanging pleasantries, watching TV, and on the phone. Our room was fitted with bunk beds to accommodate 8 sleepers – but there were only 6 of us due to a wise decision by the two to stay in a hotel. Anyway, the noise outside and below (we were on the second floor) cannot be heard inside our room. But wait, how can you sleep with snoring left, right and center? Mama mia, it’s like a concert how the wind comes out from their choking outlets. No names please, hehehe, we know next time. Ok, Saturday, 11/04 was competition day for Tennis, Ten pin bowling, and Basketball eliminations. Tennis Players: Johnny Armas Eric Leones Efren Reyes Ten pin Bowlers: Bob Leones, Alvin Rebulado, Vangie Leones, Alan Leones NSW was represented by the Ateneo Alumni group coordinated by Alvin Rebulado. After round 1 Sydney Amigos bundled their opponents at 3 wins and no loss record against Perth, Darwin and Adelaide with a convincing final scores. The Sydneysider blasted their last year grand final opponent Gold Coast in the semi finals. On the other semi-final cross-over the formidable Team Singapore lead all the way against Perth. But on the closing minutes Perth emerged the winner with their relentless high outside shooting spree. It was a different story in the grand finals between Sydney and Perth. The Western capital, Perth capitalized their 3 pointers shooting magic on all corners of the court. where Sydney lost its shooting luster. Inspite of 2 figures deficit at half time, Sydney Amigos was determined to grab the golden cup to a 5 points lead. ……. Basketball Semi – Finals The final result was: Champions – Perth Rene Opilas
